Paul Boerem ACNP-BC

Paul Boerem started working in critical care medicine as a registered respiratory therapist in 1997, practicing for five years at Providence Holy Cross Medical center focusing on intensive care, trauma, and labor and delivery. He moved to Utah to complete his bachelor's degree as a respiratory therapist at Weber State University; During his time in Utah Paul worked in the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, cystic fibrosis ward and the emergency department of Primary Children’s Medical Center. Upon completing his degree, he attended Columbia University School of Nursing, where he graduated with a Master of Science, completing coursework as an Acute Care NP. Following graduation, Paul accepted a position at Columbia University Medical Center in the Medical Intensive Care unit. He served as co-chief NP of the MICU, medical ECMO program and rapid response managing a team of 18 acute care nurse practitioners. With over 20 years working in critical care Paul’s experience has proven to him that the things that are the most difficult can be the most rewarding. As senior partner for the Advanced Practice Group group he is able to focus on his passion of providing high level critical services and consulting to communities across the tristate area.

Jeff Struthers ACNP-BC

Jeff has been an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner since 2007, graduating with honors from Columbia University. Since the beginning of his career he has championed the utilization of Nurse Practitioners in a variety of settings and at the highest level. The skills and experience he acquired over the last 13 years led him, with a group of like-mined providers, to found Advanced Practice Group in 2013. Jeff provides unique insight and solutions for clinical services and hospitals to improve frontline, on the ground care. He focuses on future models of critical care to improve outcomes, lower costs, and boosting patient satisfaction. Speak with Jeff and the rest of the Advanced Practice Group today.

Derek Lyon ACNP-BC

Derek Lyon hails from the salt of the earth in down East Maine. After completing a degree in Biology at Brandeis University he worked as a 911 paramedic in Jersey City, New Jersey and for a LEVEL I Trauma Center in NYC. In 2007 he graduated from Columbia University School Of Nursing as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and worked for 10 years in the ICU at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center with a focus on advanced Critical Care Medicine as well as ECMO in the ICU for respiratory failure. Today Derek plays an integral role in program initiation, development, training and Human Resources at Advanced Practice Group. Derek remains a celebrated team provider with a culturally sensitive compassionate bedside manner aimed at our APG core principle: “put the patient first.”

Michael Colabraro ACNP-BC, CRNA

Michael is a board certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Anesthetist who began his healthcare career in 2001 while working full time to fund his college education. He worked as a paramedic in Jersey City and Newark, NJ before completing degrees in Biology and Nursing. His critical care experience began while working as a nurse in the Surgical ICU of a major, level 1 trauma center in Manhattan. He also served our country for 5 years as an US Army Reserve officer. He attended graduate school at Columbia University, graduating in 2010 and becoming a board certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. He began his distinguished career at Columbia University Medical Center for the department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine before eventually returning to Columbia University for anesthesia school. He split his time between the ICU and anesthesia services before spending a year in Los Angeles doing pediatric cardiac anesthesia at one of the most prestigious children’s hospitals in the country. After returning to New York, he helped to continue developing Advanced Practice Group, specifically anesthesia services. He currently practices in both settings - Critical Care and Anesthesia. He has specific expertise in regional anesthesia including ultrasound guided nerve blocks.
